What’s your bag? Cornhole Tournament raises $13,676!

The West Irondequoit Foundation replaced its annual golf tournament this year with a Cornhole Tournament and the event, held on October 12th, raised $13,676 for the non-profit organization that supports our schools via grants. Since 1990, WIF has generated more than $936,000 for education and other initiatives in the West Irondequoit Central School District.

Thirty-two teams signed up to play in the single-elimination event at the St. Paul Firemen’s Exempt Club in Irondequoit. Diamond Packaging was the major sponsor, FULL MEA5URE the Food Sponsor and the event was catered by Sticky Lips BBQ, which is headed by Irondequoit High School graduate, Howie Nielsen. A team from Diamond Packaging won the $1,000 first prize. That duo, former IHS basketball star Josiah Heath and Ilche Nakovski, rallied from deficits of 14-2 and 20-9 to win the championship game.

Special thanks to all of the sponsors, the Exempt Club and the IHS Tech Team, led by Eric Schultz, which made all 32 cornhole boards. Those boards are available for sale for $125 (with bags, $150). Contact the WICSD Office of Public Information (336-3067) for more details.
